Honda CR-V 2012 2.0 i-VTEC (gen 4)

Honda CR-V 2012 2.0 petrol description

Honda CR-V 2012 2.0 i-VTEC has been produced from 2012 to 2015. It has four-cylinder petrol engine with displacement of 2.0 litres, which produces power of 155 horsepower at 6500 rpm and torque 192 Nm (Newton metres).

This 4-cylinder 16-valve engine camshaft is driven by chain (What is an engine chain and belt? ). Engine has fuel injection system, this is an atmospheric engine (without turbine). Engine versions compliant with Euro 4 and Euro 5 emission standards available. Engine lifespan (mileage before major repairs or overhaul) can last from 270 up to 450 thousand kilometres. Note that engine life can be longer or shorter depending on maintenance.
More engine specs
This engine is sensitive to both fuel and oil quality. Using low-grade gasoline can quickly damage the catalytic converter and lead  ...  This Honda CR-V 2.0 engine oil type is 5W-30 and oil capacity is 4.5 litres.

Honda CR-V 2012 2.0 i-VTEC has AWD (all wheel drive) (power is automatically distributed between the wheel axles) and manual gearbox with 6 gears. Vehicle has automatic four-wheel drive system that sends torque to front wheels under normal conditions. Electronically controlled multi-plate clutch transfers torque to rear axle when wheel slip is detected. The all-wheel drive system constantly interacts with the VSA dynamic stabilization system and electric power steering to provide full vehicle control, good traction and maneuverability in all road conditions.
Honda CR-V 2012 2.0 i-VTEC accelerates to speed 100 kilometres per hour in 10.2 seconds. The maximum speed of this car is 190 km/h.

Honda CR-V 2012 2.0 i-VTEC fuel consumption is 7.4 litres per 100km in combined city/highway mode (13.5 km/l), city fuel economy - 9.3 l/100km, fuel consumption on highway - 6.3 l/100km. Fuel tank capacity is 58 litres or 15.32 gallons, which gives a mileage up to 780 kilometers without refueling in urban cycle and even up to 920 kilometers on highway.

Honda CR-V safety

During safety testing Honda CR-V has obtained 5 stars from five, which means very high safety level.
Adults (driver and passenger) safety of Honda CR-V is evaluated with outstanding rate 93 from 100, children safety: good mark - 74 from 100, for pedestrian protection Honda CR-V got 68 points from 100.
Honda CR-V safety equipment has been rated as average - 66 percents from 100.

With the same engine there are also two other Honda CR-V versions - with front wheel drive and manual gearbox (Honda CR-V 2012 2.0 MT), and with automatic gearbox (Honda CR-V 2012 2.0 Automatic AT 4x4) available:
  • Honda CR-V 2012 2.0 MT manufacturer's fuel consumption is higher by 0.5 litres per 100 km or 7 % - 7.9 litres per 100 km
  • Honda CR-V 2012 2.0 Automatic AT 4x4 is more sluggish, reaching 100 km/h 2.6 seconds later (in 12.8 seconds), but manufacturer's fuel consumption is higher by 0.3 litres per 100 km or 4 % - 7.7 litres per 100 km

Engine reliability and common problems:

This engine is sensitive to both fuel and oil quality. Using low-grade gasoline can quickly damage the catalytic converter and lead to premature failure of the oxygen sensors.

Many Honda owners are annoyed by knocking noises coming from engine. This clicking is typically caused by the canister purge valve and is considered normal. However, the engine may also produce valve noise, especially if valve clearance adjustments haven't been done for a while — a common issue in engines without hydraulic lifters.

Engine mounts and the serpentine belt tensioner have a relatively short lifespan. The tensioner, in particular, often starts making noise before reaching 100,000 km. When it does, replacement is usually the solution.

Because the engine lacks hydraulic lifters, regular valve clearance adjustments are necessary to maintain proper performance and minimize noise.

Vibration is another characteristic. Mild shaking when the engine is cold is typical, but if the vibration becomes excessive, especially when idling, it's recommended to inspect the engine mounts — the left one is often the culprit.
Overall, this engine can last around 270,000 to 450,000 km if properly maintained, using the correct quality oil and fuel, and carrying out regular checks and maintenance.
Engine displacement 1997 cm3
Number of cylinders 4
Bore (cylinder diameter) 81 mm
Stroke length (piston move) 96.9 mm
Compression ratio 10.5 : 1
Camshaft drive Timing chain

Chain motors are considered more reliable, chain replacement usually is required less often than a timing belt, but they are often louder and vibrate more.
