Exhaust gases are directed into two separate pipes immediately monitored by two wideband lambda sensors and pre-catalysts. Further down the system are two planar lambda sensors, after which the pipes merge into a single collector leading to a NOx storage catalyst.
In practice, these engines often last up to 400,000 kilometers without major repairs if properly maintained. However, they are sensitive to low temperatures, with starting issues commonly reported in freezing conditions below -17°C. In such cases, the ECU delivers an overly rich air-fuel mixture, flooding the spark plugs.
