Change engine oil and filter
Over time, the oil in the engine "wears down" and loses its properties, and the oil filter becomes contaminated with dirt, so changing the oil and filter is absolutely essential if you want your car engine to last a long time. The usual interval for oil and filter changes is 10,000 km or one year, whichever comes first. Often car manufacturers tend to specify longer change intervals, but it is believed that this is done for marketing purposes and on the assumption that the car will be used for longer cycles, with many tens or hundreds of kilometers of steady driving in each cycle. In reality, cars are often used for short trips of a few kilometers several times a day. Our advice is to keep to 10,000 km between engine oil changes and to change your oil at least every 12 months, even if you have not driven the specified number of kilometers in a year.

Costs include:
- Oil price €5 - €10 per litre, usually 3 to 8 litres depending on engine capacity (more oil for larger engines)
- Oil filter - usually around 10 EUR. Some cars tend to have several oil filters, so the cost will be higher.
- Oil change (labour) costs - an oil change usually requires no more than 30 - 60 minutes of labour, so the cost tends to be €25 - €50. However, the duration and cost can be higher, e.g. if the car is equipped with engine guards that need to be removed, or if the oil filter is located in a particularly difficult to reach place, or if there are several oil filters, etc.
