Honda CR-V 2022: The 2022 Honda CR-V AWD is a front-wheel-drive-based, on-demand system. Under normal traction, drive torque is sent mainly to the front axle. When the control system detects slip or predicts reduced grip from sensor inputs, an electronically controlled hydraulic multi-plate clutch in the rear drive unit progressively couples the rear axle. Torque transfer is variable, automatic, and managed through wheel-speed, throttle, steering-angle, and VSA/traction-control data. In steady cruising, rear axle engagement is minimized to reduce drag and fuel consumption. It is not a fixed full-time AWD or a lockable 4WD system. Volvo XC60 2017: This Volvo has Haldex Generation V proactive automatic four-wheel drive. It analyzes input from the ABS and engine control units and can increase pressure on the multi-disc clutch for faster application when needed. During normal driving, the torque split is 100% to the front and no torque to the rear. If wheel spin is detected, torque can be split evenly between the axles (50% to 50%). | |||
