Drive type | |||
Wheel drive type: | Rear wheel drive (RWD) | 4x4 - AWD (all-wheel-drive)
BMW 3 sērija 2012: BMW xDrive is a proactive all-wheel drive system without a center differential that engages before the vehicle becomes destabilized, unnoticed by the driver. Torque is distributed between the axles by an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch in the transfer case. The clutch is partially locked at most times, distributing power to both axles in a 40/60 front/rear ratio, but the system is capable of sending 100% of the torque to either axle. At higher speeds or when parking, multi-plate clutch is disengaged and all power is transferred to the rear wheels. DSC system (Dynamic Stability Control) also brakes the wheels separately to regain traction and assist in cornering.
Engines | |||
Average engine lifespan: | 420'000 km | 350'000 km
Engine resource depends largely on regular maintenance and the quality of the oils and fuels used, but under equal conditions the average life of a BMW 5 series engine could be longer.
Engine production duration: | 17 years | 17 years
Engine spread: | Installed on at least 4 other car models, including BMW 3 sērija, BMW X5, BMW 7 sērija, BMW X6 | Installed on at least 8 other car models, including BMW 5 sērija, BMW X5, BMW 7 sērija, BMW X3, BMW X6
In general, the longer and for more car models an engine is produced, the better its serviceability and availability of spare parts. BMW 3 series might be a better choice in this respect.
BMW 5 sērija 2010 3.0 engine: The N57 engine is a robust turbo diesel unit without any major systemic issues. Its longevity depends heavily on regular maintenance, including timely servicing, periodic cleaning of the intake system, and active regeneration of the diesel particulate filter.
