Drive type | |||
| Wheel drive type: | 4x4 - AWD (all-wheel-drive) | 4x4 - AWD (all-wheel-drive) | |
|
Dacia Duster 2017: Duster`s 4x4 system is adapted from Nissan Quashqai. It has 2WD, AUTO and LOCK modes which are selectable with a button. In 2WD mode the vehicle is FWD. In AUTO mode, the vehicle is normally FWD, but if wheel slip occurs, the rear wheels are engaged to gain traction. In LOCK mode (available at speeds up to 60km/h), the center differential splits torque 50/50 front/rear. Toyota RAV4 2019: It has proactive automatic four-wheel drive with Auto, Lock and Sport modes. In Auto mode, the car has front-wheel drive under normal conditions. If wheel slip is detected, torque is transferred to the rear wheels via an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch. In Sport mode, torque is transferred almost instantly between the front and rear wheels to enhance cornering performance by transferring up to 50 percent of engine power to the rear wheels. Lock mode can be activated when driving below 40 km/h (25 mph) and provides constant four-wheel drive. | |||
| Ground clearance: | 210 mm (8.3 inches) | 195 mm (7.7 inches) | |
| Because of the higher ground clearance, Dacia Duster can perform better on bad roads - it can go over higher obstacles and bumps. At the same time, the higher ground clearance can reduce stability and handling on paved roads, especially at higher speeds. | |||
Engines | |||
| Average engine lifespan: | 420'000 km | 300'000 km | |
| Engine resource depends largely on regular maintenance and the quality of the oils and fuels used, but under equal conditions the average life of a Dacia Duster engine could be longer. | |||
| Engine production duration: | 27 years | 8 years | |
| Engine spread: | Installed on at least 7 other car models, including Renault Laguna, Renault Scenic, Renault Clio | Used also on Lexus UX | |
| In general, the longer and for more car models an engine is produced, the better its serviceability and availability of spare parts. Dacia Duster might be a better choice in this respect. | |||
| Hydraulic tappets: | no | yes | |
| The Toyota RAV4 engine has hydraulic tappets (lifters), providing quieter operation and no need for periodic adjustment, but they are more complex in design and can cause serious engine damage in case of failure. | |||
| Dacia Duster 2017 1.6 engine: The engine is very robust and long-lived, up to half a million kilometres, and can suffer minor damage, but overall it is quite reliable. Fuel consumption is relatively high for these engines, but they are not ... More about Dacia Duster 2017 1.6 engine | |||
