Dacia Duster 2017 vs Renault Kadjar 2018
Gearbox: | Manual | Manual | |
---|---|---|---|
Engine: | 1.6 Petrol | 1.7 Diesel | |
Petrol engines (Dacia Duster) are generally quieter, smoother, and better suited for short trips due to quicker warm-up times. Diesel (Renault Kadjar) engines, on the other hand, offer superior fuel efficiency and torque, making them ideal for long-distance driving and heavy loads. Camshaft drive: | Timing belt | Timing chain | |
Timing belt usually needs to be replaced more often than the chain, but it is usually significantly cheaper. Timing belt motors are generally quieter and less vibrating than chain motors. | |||
Performance | |||
Power: | 115 HP | 150 HP | |
Torque: | 156 NM | 340 NM | |
Acceleration 0-100 km/h: | 12.9 seconds | n/a seconds | |
Dacia Duster engine produces 35 HP less power than Renault Kadjar, whereas torque is 184 NM less than Renault Kadjar. | |||
Fuel consumption | |||
Fuel consumption (l/100km): | 7.0 | no data | |

Drive type | |||
Wheel drive type: | 4x4 - AWD (all-wheel-drive) | 4x4 - AWD (all-wheel-drive) | |
Dacia Duster 2017: Duster`s 4x4 system is adapted from Nissan Quashqai. It has 2WD, AUTO and LOCK modes which are selectable with a button. In 2WD mode the vehicle is FWD. In AUTO mode, the vehicle is normally FWD, but if wheel slip occurs, the rear wheels are engaged to gain traction. In LOCK mode (available at speeds up to 60km/h), the center differential splits torque 50/50 front/rear. Renault Kadjar 2018: Kadjar has an automatic four-wheel drive system with three modes: 2WD, AUTO and LOCK. In 2WD and AUTO modes, it`s a front-wheel drive vehicle under normal conditions. In AUTO mode, if wheel spin is detected, up to 50% of torque can be sent to the rear wheels. In LOCK mode, the center differential is engaged to provide a preset 50/50 power distribution between the front and rear axles. | |||
Ground clearance: | 210 mm (8.3 inches) | 200 mm (7.9 inches) | |
Because of the higher ground clearance, Dacia Duster can perform better on bad roads - it can go over higher obstacles and bumps. At the same time, the higher ground clearance can reduce stability and handling on paved roads, especially at higher speeds. | |||
Engines | |||
Average engine lifespan: | 420'000 km | 420'000 km | |
Engine resource depends largely on regular maintenance and the quality of the oils and fuels used. | |||
Engine production duration: | 26 years | 9 years | |
Engine spread: | Installed on at least 7 other car models, including Renault Laguna, Renault Scenic, Renault Clio | Installed on at least 6 other car models, including Nissan X-Trail, Nissan Qashqai, Renault Scenic, Renault Megane | |
In general, the longer and for more car models an engine is produced, the better its serviceability and availability of spare parts. Dacia Duster might be a better choice in this respect. | |||
Hydraulic tappets: | no | yes | |
The Renault Kadjar engine has hydraulic tappets (lifters), providing quieter operation and no need for periodic adjustment, but they are more complex in design and can cause serious engine damage in case of failure. | |||
Dacia Duster 2017 1.6 engine: The engine is very robust and long-lived, up to half a million kilometres, and can suffer minor damage, but overall it is quite reliable. Fuel consumption is relatively high for these engines, but they are not ... More about Dacia Duster 2017 1.6 engine | |||
