Torque: | 400 NM | 450 NM | |
Acceleration 0-100 km/h: | 5.2 seconds | 4.9 seconds
BMW 3 series is a more dynamic driving. BMW 4 series engine produces 20 HP less power than BMW 3 series, whereas torque is 50 NM less than BMW 3 series. Due to the lower power, BMW 4 series reaches 100 km/h speed 0.3 seconds later.
Fuel consumption | |||
Fuel consumption (l/100km): | 7.5 | 7.3
Real fuel consumption: | 9.9 l/100km | 9.5 l/100km
The BMW 3 series is a better choice in terms of fuel economy based on user-reported consumption, although the specification shows otherwise. By specification BMW 4 series consumes 0.2 litres more fuel per 100 km than the BMW 3 series, which means that if you drive 15,000 km in a year, the BMW 4 series could require 30 litres more fuel. By comparing actual fuel consumption based on user reports, BMW 4 series consumes 0.4 litres more fuel per 100 km than the BMW 3 series.

Drive type | |||
Wheel drive type: | Rear wheel drive (RWD) | 4x4 - AWD (all-wheel-drive)
BMW 3 sērija 2015: BMW xDrive is a proactive all-wheel drive system without a center differential that engages before the vehicle becomes destabilized, unnoticed by the driver. Torque is distributed between the axles by an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch in the transfer case. The clutch is partially locked at most times, distributing power to both axles in a 40/60 front/rear ratio, but the system is capable of sending 100% of the torque to either axle. At higher speeds or when parking, multi-plate clutch is disengaged and all power is transferred to the rear wheels. DSC system (Dynamic Stability Control) also brakes the wheels separately to regain traction and assist in cornering.
Ground clearance: | 130 mm (5.1 inches) | 145 mm (5.7 inches)
Because of the higher ground clearance, BMW 3 series can perform better on bad roads - it can go over higher obstacles and bumps. At the same time, the higher ground clearance can reduce stability and handling on paved roads, especially at higher speeds.
Engines | |||
Average engine lifespan: | 420'000 km | 330'000 km
Engine resource depends largely on regular maintenance and the quality of the oils and fuels used, but under equal conditions the average life of a BMW 4 series engine could be longer.
Engine production duration: | 9 years | 10 years
Engine spread: | Installed on at least 7 other car models, including BMW 5 sērija, BMW 3 sērija, BMW X5, BMW 1 sērija, BMW X3, BMW X6 | Used also on BMW X4
In general, the longer and for more car models an engine is produced, the better its serviceability and availability of spare parts. BMW 4 series might be a better choice in this respect.
BMW 4 sērija 2013 3.0 engine: Using poor quality oil on this engine will quickly lead to soot build-up, resulting in damage to the hydrocompensators, Vanos and Valvetronic systems. BMW 3 sērija 2015 3.0 engine: The B58 engine, compared to its predecessor, features a 20% increase in boost pressure, a closed-deck cylinder block design, an increased compression ratio of 11.0:1, and a slightly larger displacement of 2998 cc, up from 2979 cc, with an additional weight of 8 kg. Despite its advancements, the engine has several common ... More about BMW 3 sērija 2015 3.0 engine
