BMW 3 series 2015 vs BMW 4 series 2017
Gearbox: | Automatic | Manual | |
---|---|---|---|
Engine: | 2.0 Diesel | 2.0 Petrol | |
Diesel (BMW 3 series) engines typically outperform gasoline engines in terms of fuel efficiency and low-end torque. This makes them more economical and better suited for towing or long-distance travel. However, gasoline (BMW 4 series) engines mostly are lighter, quieter, and offer better acceleration and responsiveness, especially in smaller vehicles. BMW 3 series is more dynamic to drive. BMW 3 series engine produces 6 HP more power than BMW 4 series, whereas torque is 130 NM more than BMW 4 series. Thanks to more power BMW 3 series reaches 100 km/h speed 0.2 seconds faster. | |||
Fuel consumption | |||
Fuel consumption (l/100km): | 4.7 | 5.8 | |
Real fuel consumption: | 6.2 l/100km | 7.4 l/100km | |
The BMW 3 series is a better choice when it comes to fuel economy. By specification BMW 3 series consumes 1.1 litres less fuel per 100 km than the BMW 4 series, which means that by driving the BMW 3 series over 15,000 km in a year you can save 165 litres of fuel. By comparing actual fuel consumption based on user reports, BMW 3 series consumes 1.2 litres less fuel per 100 km than the BMW 4 series. | |||

Drive type | |||
Wheel drive type: | 4x4 - AWD (all-wheel-drive) | Rear wheel drive (RWD) | |
BMW 3 sērija has 4x4: BMW xDrive is a proactive all-wheel drive system without a center differential that engages before the vehicle becomes destabilized, unnoticed by the driver. Torque is distributed between the axles by an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch in the transfer case. The clutch is partially locked at most times, distributing power to both axles in a 40/60 front/rear ratio, but the system is capable of sending 100% of the torque to either axle. At higher speeds or when parking, multi-plate clutch is disengaged and all power is transferred to the rear wheels. DSC system (Dynamic Stability Control) also brakes the wheels separately to regain traction and assist in cornering. | |||
