BMW 3 series 2018 vs BMW X1 2019
Body: | Estate car / wagon | Crossover / SUV | |
---|---|---|---|
Crossovers and SUVs have better off-road capabilities (higher ground clearance, can have 4x4 drive), they are preferable for driving on unpaved roads and rural areas. Also, the driver's seating position is higher in a crossover or SUVs, which provides better visibility also in city. This usually comes at the cost of higher fuel consumption, increased weight and higher maintenance costs. | |||

BMW 3 series is more dynamic to drive. BMW 3 series engine produces 66 HP more power than BMW X1, whereas torque is 120 NM more than BMW X1. Thanks to more power BMW 3 series reaches 100 km/h speed 1.6 seconds faster. | |||
Fuel consumption | |||
Fuel consumption (l/100km): | 6.3 | 6.7 | |
Real fuel consumption: | 8.3 l/100km | 7.5 l/100km | |
The BMW X1 is a better choice in terms of fuel economy based on user-reported consumption, although the specification shows otherwise. By specification BMW 3 series consumes 0.4 litres less fuel per 100 km than the BMW X1, which means that by driving the BMW 3 series over 15,000 km in a year you can save 60 litres of fuel. But when we compare the real fuel consumption reported by users, BMW 3 series consumes 0.8 litres more fuel per 100 km than the BMW X1. | |||

Drive type | |||
Wheel drive type: | 4x4 - AWD (all-wheel-drive) | 4x4 - AWD (all-wheel-drive) | |
BMW 3 sērija 2018: BMW xDrive is a proactive all-wheel drive system without a center differential that engages before the vehicle becomes destabilized, unnoticed by the driver. Torque is distributed between the axles by an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch in the transfer case. The clutch is partially locked at most times, distributing power to both axles in a 40/60 front/rear ratio, but the system is capable of sending 100% of the torque to either axle. At higher speeds or when parking, multi-plate clutch is disengaged and all power is transferred to the rear wheels. DSC system (Dynamic Stability Control) also brakes the wheels separately to regain traction and assist in cornering. BMW X1 2019: This generation BMW features the Haldex Generation V proactive all-wheel-drive system, which sends 100% of torque to the front wheels as standard. The system analyzes data from the ABS and engine control units and can increase pressure on the multi-disc clutch for faster engagement if required. If wheel spin is detected, torque can be split evenly between the axles (50%/50%). | |||
Engines | |||
Average engine lifespan: | 320'000 km | 320'000 km | |
Engine resource depends largely on regular maintenance and the quality of the oils and fuels used. | |||
Engine production duration: | 11 years | 11 years | |
Engine spread: | Installed on at least 3 other car models, including BMW 1 sērija, BMW 6 sērija, BMW Z4 | Installed on at least 2 other car models, including BMW 2 sērija, BMW X2 | |
In general, the longer and for more car models an engine is produced, the better its serviceability and availability of spare parts. BMW 3 series might be a better choice in this respect. | |||
