BMW 3 series 2018 vs Renault Megane 2020
Gearbox: | Automatic | Automatic | |
---|---|---|---|
Engine: | 2.0 Diesel | 1.5 Diesel | |
Camshaft drive: | Timing chain | Timing belt | |
Engine chain usually needs to be replaced less often than the timing belt, but the cost of replacing the chain is usually higher. Chain motors are considered to be more reliable, but noisier and more vibration generating. | |||
Performance | |||
Power: | 190 HP | 115 HP | |
Torque: | 400 NM | 260 NM | |
Acceleration 0-100 km/h: | 7.4 seconds | 11.1 seconds | |
BMW 3 series is more dynamic to drive. BMW 3 series engine produces 75 HP more power than Renault Megane, whereas torque is 140 NM more than Renault Megane. Thanks to more power BMW 3 series reaches 100 km/h speed 3.7 seconds faster. | |||
Fuel consumption | |||
Fuel consumption (l/100km): | 4.6 | no data | |
Fuel tank capacity: | 40 litres | 45 litres | |
610 km with real consumption | 720 km with real consumption | ||
Drive type | |||
Wheel drive type: | 4x4 - AWD (all-wheel-drive) | Front wheel drive (FWD) | |
BMW 3 sērija has 4x4: BMW xDrive is a proactive all-wheel drive system without a center differential that engages before the vehicle becomes destabilized, unnoticed by the driver. Torque is distributed between the axles by an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch in the transfer case. The clutch is partially locked at most times, distributing power to both axles in a 40/60 front/rear ratio, but the system is capable of sending 100% of the torque to either axle. At higher speeds or when parking, multi-plate clutch is disengaged and all power is transferred to the rear wheels. DSC system (Dynamic Stability Control) also brakes the wheels separately to regain traction and assist in cornering. | |||
Ground clearance: | 135 mm (5.3 inches) | 145 mm (5.7 inches) | |
Because of the higher ground clearance, Renault Megane can perform better on bad roads - it can go over higher obstacles and bumps. At the same time, the higher ground clearance can reduce stability and handling on paved roads, especially at higher speeds. Note, however, that this Renault Megane version does not have 4x4 drive, which is very important in poor road conditions. | |||
Engines | |||
Engine production duration: | 11 years | 13 years | |
Engine spread: | Installed on at least 6 other car models, including BMW 5 sērija, BMW 1 sērija, BMW X3, BMW 2 sērija | Installed on at least 16 other car models, including Nissan Qashqai, Renault Scenic, Dacia Duster | |
In general, the longer and for more car models an engine is produced, the better its serviceability and availability of spare parts. Renault Megane might be a better choice in this respect. | |||
Hydraulic tappets: | yes | no | |
The BMW 3 series engine has hydraulic tappets (lifters), providing quieter operation and no need for periodic adjustment, but they are more complex in design and can cause serious engine damage in case of failure. | |||
BMW 3 sērija 2018 2.0 engine: Pretty reliable engine with great resource. Overall, the chains are more reliable than in BMW N-series engines, but also tend to stretch under heavy use. The engine requires good quality fuel, maintenance and ... More about BMW 3 sērija 2018 2.0 engine Renault Megane 2020 1.5 engine: The engine has undergone numerous modifications and is relatively commonplace, with a plentiful supply of spare parts.
