Opel Grandland is a compact SUV introduced in 2017, positioned above the Crossland in Opel’s lineup. It was developed under PSA Group ownership and shares its platform with the Peugeot 3008, using the EMP2 architecture. The model is built with a focus on efficiency, practicality, and modern driver assistance systems.
At launch, the Grandland was offered with turbocharged petrol and diesel engines, including a 1.2-liter three-cylinder petrol engine producing around 130 horsepower and 1.5- or 2.0-liter diesel units with outputs between 130 and 177 horsepower. Transmissions included a 6-speed manual and an 8-speed automatic. Front-wheel drive was standard, with traction control systems providing additional grip in low-traction conditions.
In 2020, Opel introduced plug-in hybrid variants, combining a 1.6-liter turbo petrol engine with one or two electric motors. The hybrid versions delivered system outputs up to 300 horsepower in the all-wheel-drive configuration, along with an electric-only driving range suitable for daily commuting. Battery capacity was approximately 13 kWh. In 2021, the model received a facelift, removing the “X” from its name and adopting Opel’s new Vizor front design, updated infotainment systems, and enhanced digital instrumentation.
In user reviews, drivers often describe the Opel Grandland as an easy-going and sensible companion rather than an exciting SUV. Many highlight how relaxed and composed it feels on longer journeys, with engines that balance performance and economy without demanding attention. The cabin is frequently mentioned as practical and well laid out, even if not particularly bold in design. Hybrid versions receive positive feedback for their quiet electric operation in daily traffic. On the other hand, some owners note that the steering lacks engagement, the rear seating area is not class-leading in space, and the overall character leans toward calm practicality rather than dynamic flair.
