Opel Frontera is a midsize SUV produced from 1991 to 2004, developed in cooperation with Isuzu and based on a ladder-frame chassis. It was designed as a traditional off-road vehicle with selectable four-wheel drive and strong durability. The Frontera was sold in both short-wheelbase three-door and long-wheelbase five-door versions. Total production exceeded 320,000 units.
The first generation (Frontera A, 1991–1998) was based on the Isuzu MU and offered petrol and diesel engines. Power outputs ranged from approximately 100 to 136 horsepower. It featured a part-time 4x4 system with a low-range transfer case, making it suitable for serious off-road use.
The second generation (Frontera B, 1998–2004) introduced improved safety, a more modern interior, and revised engines. Petrol options included a 2.2-liter four-cylinder and a 3.2-liter V6 producing around 205 horsepower. Diesel variants included 2.2-liter DTI units with better torque and efficiency. Structural rigidity and ride comfort were enhanced compared to the earlier model, while retaining body-on-frame construction and off-road capability.
In user reviews, the Opel Frontera is valued for its solid off-road performance, simple mechanical layout, and durability. Owners appreciate its towing ability and rugged construction. However, criticism often highlights high fuel consumption in petrol versions, noticeable body roll on road, rust issues on older vehicles, and a relatively basic interior by modern standards.

Pros: This particular Frontera is probably better than that of Frontera 2 (second is a fractious engine). When engine is followed by and maintained, it serves long and well. It is not fanciful to fuel, takes everything. In winter, jumping from half a revolution in -25C, indeed, if battery is capable of generating enough power. I love this engine gas distribution mechanism shall be recovered through gears. Therefore, no need to change gear belt, which pays some cars expensive or problems with chains that tends to be worn with time. As a whole car is a very tough because parts are made profound. I've been through offroads. Trafficability, for standard car is brilliant. This car has a fully fledged four-wheel drive with which it is also reduced mode. Even recently, several times I drove through 8 km long off-road stage where UAZ failed two times.
Cons: Negative as a matter of principle, is small details. Firstly hubs, needed to change to mechanical. It is characteristic of brake calliper control stucking (they once a year should be cleaned and oiled). Is thought to be out of engine oil pressure sensor. I can't say anything more bad for over four years usage.
