Opel Agila is a compact city car produced between 2000 and 2015, developed as a practical and space-efficient small vehicle. It was created in cooperation with Suzuki and shared its platform with the Suzuki Wagon R+ in the first generation and later with the Suzuki Splash. Across both generations, total production exceeded 440,000 units.
The first generation (2000–2007) was built on a tall hatchback concept with a high roofline to maximize interior space. It was offered with 1.0-liter and 1.2-liter petrol engines, as well as a 1.3-liter diesel in some markets. The model focused on practicality, easy maneuverability, and low running costs rather than performance.
The second generation (2008–2014) featured a more modern design and improved safety equipment. It retained compact dimensions but offered better refinement and updated engines, including 1.0-liter and 1.2-liter petrol units and a 1.3-liter CDTI diesel. Fuel efficiency and emissions were improved compared to the previous version. The chassis tuning was aimed at urban comfort, while maintaining stable handling for a small car.
In user reviews, the Opel Agila is praised for its spacious interior relative to its size, good visibility, low fuel consumption, and reliability of simple engines. Owners appreciate its practicality for city driving and affordable maintenance. Criticism typically includes modest performance, basic interior materials, limited trunk capacity, and higher cabin noise at motorway speeds.
