The Mitsubishi Outlander is a midsize crossover SUV that has been in production since 2001. Known for its versatility and family-friendly design, it has evolved through several generations with a focus on practicality, efficiency, and available all-wheel drive systems.
The second generation (2005–2012) brought a more modern and robust design, featuring a range of petrol and diesel engines, including a 2.0-liter and 2.4-liter MIVEC petrol and a 2.2-liter diesel. This generation also introduced a seven-seat option and Mitsubishi’s electronically controlled all-wheel drive system, making it suitable for light off-road use.
The third generation, launched in 2012, received multiple facelifts over its lifespan and introduced the plug-in hybrid version (Outlander PHEV), which became one of the world’s best-selling plug-in hybrid SUVs. The PHEV combined a 2.0 or later 2.4-liter petrol engine with dual electric motors and offered electric-only driving range. Traditional models continued with petrol and diesel variants, emphasizing fuel economy, comfort, and improved safety features.
The fourth generation debuted in 2021, built on a shared platform with the Nissan Rogue. It features a bolder design, a more upscale interior, and a 2.5-liter petrol engine with CVT transmission. The PHEV variant was also updated with a larger battery and more powerful electric motors, enhancing both performance and electric range.
In user reviews, the Mitsubishi Outlander is often praised for its spacious interior, affordability, and the practicality of the PHEV version. The all-wheel drive capability and seven-seat layout are appreciated by families. Criticisms include somewhat dated infotainment in older models, firm ride quality, and average acceleration in base versions. Still, it remains a strong option in the midsize SUV segment, especially for those seeking efficiency and versatility.

Pros: Normal car, stable and responsive, engine is robust, confident enough off-road due to high ground clearance.
Cons: The rust ate it, after a little accident when the tractor was pulling me out of the drift, the whole radiator came out of the rope pull with all the fasteners and other bits that were in the way. Japanese metal and a lifetime of car in LV - rust ate the whole underside.

Pros: Quality appropriate price. Although, paradoxically, inside much bigger and comfortable than Mitsubishi Pajero.
Cons: In general, reliable car, just find it annoying that new procured vehicle at approximately 50 thousand mileage had to change brake control, and dealer's reserved attitude that it is all this specific producer model problem.
