The MINI Countryman is a compact crossover that combines MINI's iconic design with increased practicality and interior space. Introduced in 2010, it was the first MINI model with four doors, five seats, and available all-wheel drive (ALL4). The Countryman quickly became a popular choice for those wanting MINI style in a format better suited for everyday use.
The first generation (2010–2016) was offered with a range of petrol and diesel engines, from 1.6 to 2.0 liters in capacity. Both front-wheel and all-wheel drive versions were available. The Cooper S and John Cooper Works (JCW) variants provided a more performance-oriented experience. The second generation, launched in 2017, was built on BMW's UKL2 platform shared with the BMW X1. It offered more interior space, better ride comfort, and updated technologies.
Powertrains in the second generation included 1.5-liter three-cylinder and 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engines, along with diesel options and a plug-in hybrid (Cooper SE ALL4). The electrified version enables short-distance electric driving while maintaining overall versatility. Recent models also feature advanced safety systems such as adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking.
In user reviews, the MINI Countryman is praised for its spaciousness, stylish design, and high build quality. The blend of MINI's dynamic character with crossover practicality is especially appreciated. Common criticisms include high maintenance costs and a firm suspension setup, which can be uncomfortable on rough roads. Nevertheless, it remains a popular lifestyle vehicle with a distinctive personality.
