Jaguar XF is a mid-size executive sedan introduced in 2007 for the 2008 model year as the replacement for the Jaguar S-Type. It was produced in two main generations and offered as a saloon and, in later versions, as the Sportbrake estate. Production ended in 2024 as Jaguar began withdrawing its combustion-engine models ahead of its electric relaunch.
The first generation (X250, 2007–2015) kept a traditional front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout and used 6-speed automatic transmissions at launch, later moving to 8-speed automatics. Engines included 2.2- and 3.0-liter diesels, 3.0-liter V6 petrol units and 4.2- or 5.0-liter V8 engines. Performance versions such as the XFR and XFR-S used supercharged V8 power, with the XFR-S producing around 550 horsepower. A 2011 facelift improved styling, infotainment and engine efficiency.
The second generation (X260, 2015–2024) moved to Jaguar’s aluminium-intensive D7a platform, reducing weight and sharpening handling. It was offered with 2.0-liter Ingenium petrol and diesel engines, 3.0-liter V6 diesel and supercharged V6 petrol versions, with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive depending on market. Later updates added mild-hybrid diesel technology, a more digital cabin and improved driver assistance systems.
In user reviews, the Jaguar XF is often described as the executive sedan for drivers who want something less predictable than a German rival. Owners like its poised chassis, elegant cabin, comfortable long-distance manners and strong diesel economy. V6 and V8 versions add real pace and character. Complaints usually mention tight rear headroom, infotainment that aged quickly, expensive suspension or electronics repairs, and potential Ingenium diesel issues on neglected cars.
Jaguar XF reviews
Pros: Very comfortable car, elegant and very reliable on all types of roads. Despite seeing online reviews, it has not given me a single problem and goes like silk. It has 130,000 km.
Cons: Nothing negative. I was on the verge of not buying it when I saw negative opinions that I now see as interested. The car goes great.
