The Dacia Sandero is a compact hatchback launched in 2008 as an affordable alternative for urban and everyday driving. It shares the B0 platform with other Dacia models such as the Logan, prioritizing simplicity, durability, and low running costs. The Sandero is one of Dacia’s best-selling models in Europe thanks to its practicality and budget-friendly appeal.

The first generation (2008–2012) featured basic equipment and a range of petrol and diesel engines, including 1.2-liter and 1.6-liter petrol units, and the 1.5 dCi diesel. A rugged-looking Stepway version was also introduced, offering increased ground clearance and crossover styling cues. The second generation (2012–2020) brought updated styling, better soundproofing, and improved interior quality. Turbocharged TCe petrol engines became available, as did Easy-R automated manual gearboxes.

The third generation, launched in 2020, was a significant step forward in design, technology, and comfort. Built on Renault’s CMF-B platform, it features LED lighting, a more modern cabin, and safety systems such as automatic emergency braking and blind spot monitoring. New efficient engines, including LPG-compatible versions, further improved fuel economy and emissions.

In user reviews, the Dacia Sandero is appreciated for its low purchase price, fuel efficiency, and straightforward usability. The Stepway variant is particularly popular for its SUV-like looks and higher driving position. However, users often mention limited noise insulation, basic interior materials, and a less refined ride on rough roads. Still, the Sandero is considered one of the most practical choices in the budget hatchback segment.

Is Dacia Sandero a reliable car?

The Dacia Sandero is not a reliable car, it regularly ranks near the bottom of car reliability ratings and is outperformed by 95% of other cars in terms of the number of defects found during annual inspections.

Based on annual roadworthiness tests results, the Dacia Sandero generation produced from 2012 to 2016 received the highest reliability ratings, but the lowest reliability had models from model year 2008 to 2012, but overall the reliability scores of all tested Dacia Sandero generations are quite similar.

Most Dacia Sandero engines use a timing belt, which is generally regarded as less reliable than engines with a timing chain.
