Citroen C4 is a compact car introduced in 2004 as the successor to the Citroen Xsara. It has evolved through several generations, covering hatchback, sedan, coupe, and crossover-inspired body styles depending on market and era. The model has played a central role in Citroen’s C-segment lineup, with global production reaching several million units across its lifecycle.

The first generation (2004–2010) was built on PSA’s PF2 platform and offered a wide range of petrol and diesel engines from 1.4 to 2.0 liters. Power outputs ranged from approximately 90 to 180 horsepower, including performance-oriented VTS versions. It stood out for its distinctive design and unconventional interior elements, such as a fixed central steering wheel hub. Ride comfort was prioritized, while maintaining stable road handling.

The second generation (2010–2018) adopted a more conservative design and improved interior refinement. Engine options included updated VTi and THP petrol units, along with efficient HDi diesel engines. Fuel economy and emissions were significantly improved. A sedan version was produced for selected markets, emphasizing affordability and durability.

The third generation, launched in 2020, shifted toward a crossover-inspired hatchback profile with increased ground clearance and Citroen’s Advanced Comfort suspension setup. It introduced 1.2-liter PureTech petrol engines, 1.5-liter BlueHDi diesels, and a fully electric e-C4 variant with a 50 kWh battery and 136 horsepower electric motor. Modern driver assistance systems and digital displays became standard features.

In user reviews, the Citroen C4 is often described as a comfort-oriented alternative in the compact class. Drivers frequently mention its smooth ride quality and relaxed character, especially in newer generations equipped with comfort-focused suspension. Diesel engines are praised for long-distance efficiency, while petrol versions are considered adequate for everyday use for shorter journeys. Some owners, however, point to average rear passenger space, infotainment systems that may require adaptation, and resale values that can trail certain competitors. For many, the C4 appeals more through comfort and individuality than outright sportiness.
