Audi S5 is the performance version of the Audi A5, introduced in 2007 and offered as coupe, cabriolet, Sportback and, in the latest generation, sedan and Avant. All versions use quattro all-wheel drive.
The first generation B8 (2007–2016) launched with a 4.2-liter naturally aspirated V8 in the coupe, producing about 354 horsepower. Cabriolet and Sportback versions later used a 3.0-liter supercharged V6 with around 333 horsepower, which also replaced the V8 in the facelifted coupe. Depending on version, transmissions included manual, Tiptronic automatic and S tronic dual-clutch units.
The B9 generation (2017–2024) moved to a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 petrol engine with about 354 horsepower, paired mainly with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. In Europe, the facelifted S5 later used a 3.0-liter V6 TDI mild-hybrid with strong torque and better long-distance economy. The latest generation from 2024 uses a 3.0-liter turbo V6 petrol engine with MHEV plus technology, producing 367 PS and 550 Nm.
In user reviews, the Audi S5 is often described as a fast grand tourer rather than a raw sports car. Owners like its secure quattro grip, refined cabin, strong engines and ability to feel calm in daily driving but quick when needed. The V8 is loved for sound, while newer V6 models are praised for torque and efficiency. Common complaints include high servicing costs, firm suspension on large wheels, limited rear space in coupe models and a driving feel that can seem too polished for purists.
