Skoda Octavia 2004 Hatchback
I adore this car! The best of all that have come before. I was looking for a versatile car, with a large boot, a relatively spacious interior to make the rear passengers comfortable, quick to overtake. Pros: I adore this car! The best of all that have come before. I was looking for a versatile car, with a large boot, a relatively spacious interior to make the rear passengers comfortable, quick to overtake. So, comparing my pest with astra (2007), Volvo v50 and dacia duster - everything fits in the boot!!! Children's clothes, a folding bed, at one point a pram, a million toys - enough room for all. Interior: with the newest child's car seat, there is room for both the child and the person sitting in front, which cannot be said for the three cars mentioned above. Door pockets, bottle/glass holders, a million storage places (on the dashboard, on the roof where the light is, under the front seat, side pockets, cup/bottle holders in the front door pockets + between the front seats, an armrest under which you can stow quite a lot of stuff. With the engine my girl has, driving and dynamic overtaking is a pleasure (2.0 vrs, turbo). One of the plus points is the comfortably positioned accelerator pedal - my foot doesn't hurt even after 300 km. For comparison: with the Astra I cried after 30 km, Volvo - 150 km, Dacia - my knees hurt if I have to drive all 300 km in one direction without a pit stop. All in all a great car, but the suspension could be less rigid and itself a bit higher for our dirty winter roads. For now this car is my favourite, I would not consider buying an SUV as financially I cannot afford it.
Cons: My whole negative experience is that I made a big mistake buying this car, despite having a mechanic with me, because I don't know enough about what to look out for. Firstly, the fact that the car was battered and badly polluted was not noticed. By all accounts, it had even been on its side, if not on its roof. But in terms of rust, nothing tragic has happened over the years - the sills and wings were welded (corners) in the autumn. Secondly, the engine has been seized. I drove for a month and the engine decided to say goodbye to me. Then the decision was taken to rebuild the engine for an astronomical sum. Further engine maintenance only by the technician who carried out the repair - 140-175 EUR per service + petrol costs (300 km one way to the service). Brakes changed once (discs and pads), air-conditioning pipe replaced (filled only once when it started "leaking"), exhaust pipe changed (can rusted out) and, of course, the dipped-beam bulbs managed to burn out. On the downside, it's too low for our dirt winter roads. Parts, of course, more expensive than my previous car and a regular Octavia, as it turned out to be an exclusive purchase.
